The carburettor is a classic method of supplying fuel to internal combustion engines. It mixes the fuel with the air before it enters the combustion chamber to ensure optimal combustion.
It consists of various components such as the float chamber, the throttle system, the main jet, the idle jet and the air filter. By adjusting the various parameters, the fuel quantity and mixture can be adjusted according to the engine's operating conditions.
The motorbike carburettor requires regular maintenance to ensure proper functioning. This includes cleaning and checking the jets, adjusting the idle and mixture screw, and synchronising the carburettors on multi-cylinder engines. A well-maintained carburetor system contributes to the performance and efficiency of the engine.
It should be noted that carburettor systems are increasingly being replaced by fuel injection systems, which allow more precise fuel metering. However, carburettors are still used in some motorbikes, especially on classic or vintage models.
